Health Connect is Android's answer to Apple Health: one hub on your phone where fitness and health apps share data with your permission. It's built into recent versions of Android, and it's how Quenched keeps your hydration in step with everything else you use — Fitbit, Samsung Health, Google Fit's successors, whatever writes water.
Connect once and the sync runs both ways: drinks you log in Quenched land in Health Connect, and water logged by other apps flows into Quenched and counts toward your goal. Quenched even syncs caffeine, which most trackers on Android don't bother with. Here's the setup.
Connect Health Connect in Quenched
- Open Quenched and go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Health Connect section and tap Connect Health Connect.
- Health Connect opens its own permission screen. Grant the hydration and caffeine permissions — both read and write.
Done. Back in Quenched you'll see a Sync with Health Connect toggle, switched on, and any water already in Health Connect starts counting.
Don't see Health Connect on your phone? It ships built-in on Android 14 and later. On somewhat older versions it's a free install from Google Play — search for "Health Connect by Android," install it, then tap Connect in Quenched again.
What syncs, exactly
- Hydration, both directions. Your Quenched drinks are written to Health Connect; other apps' water is imported into your daily total.
- Caffeine too. Each drink's caffeine load rides along, so caffeine-aware apps see the same numbers Quenched shows you.
- Edits and deletions. Correct an entry in Quenched and Health Connect is updated to match.
Everything happens on your phone. Health Connect data is stored and processed on-device by Android, and Quenched has no account and no cloud sync on Android — your log simply never leaves your hands.
Pausing sync
Flip Sync with Health Connect off in Quenched's Settings whenever you like. While paused, drinks are not saved to Health Connect and water from other apps is not imported — but nothing already synced is touched, and Quenched keeps your full history. Flip it back on and everything resumes.
Revoking permissions
Permissions live with Android, so you can pull them at the system level any time: Settings → Security & privacy → Health Connect (on some phones: Settings → Apps → Health Connect) → App permissions → Quenched. Quenched keeps working without them — it just stops syncing until you reconnect.
Troubleshooting
- The Connect button says Health Connect is unavailable? Your Android version may be too old for Health Connect. Quenched still tracks everything locally — you only lose the cross-app sync.
- Another app's water isn't appearing? Check that the other app actually writes hydration to Health Connect (many fitness apps read but don't write), and that Quenched's read permission is still granted.
- Using an iPhone too? On iOS, Quenched syncs with Apple Health instead — here's that guide.
